Fire Departments Across Yakima County Need Volunteers

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Fire departments across the county are seeing their number of volunteers dwindle. "They're the backbone of our operation, if it wasn't for the volunteers we couldn't do our job. Not only for the city and the district here, but county wide, statewide." Said, Selah Fire Battalion Chief and Training Officer, Jim Martin. The Selah fire department currently has six paid employees and forty-eight volunteers. West Valley Fire also has six paid employees, but ninty-two volunteers.
